Reading the Iranian Society through Novels
The seminar aims at analyzing various aspects of the Iranian society based on Persian literary works, particularly novels, under three periods; the Constitutional period between 1900 and 1920; the Pahlavi period between 1921 and 1979; and the post-revolutionary period from 1979 to the present day.
Regular attendance to all of the sessions is compulsory for the participants and those who fail to attend at least five sessions will not be granted a certificate of participation. As part of the evaluation process, participants are supposed to write an assay as a final exam. They are also strictly encouraged to read the assigned texts in advance before coming to the classroom and write a response paper between 500 and 1000 words for every period. Evaluation will be based on class participation and informed contribution to the discussions in the classroom.
Since the medium of the seminar is English, language competency is required for participation.
Maximum of 20 participants will be accepted.
