There is a universal consensus among international analysts regarding the prospective major consequences of the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Apart from the radical shift it created in the US attitude towards Iran, the escalated nuclear tension will push the European and Asian parties of the deal to revise their position vis-à-vis Iran. The soon-to-be-imposed US sanctions against Iran on the one hand and the unrest caused by some of Iran’s moves, such as its ballistic missile program, even among the proponents of the JCPOA on the other, will pose major challenges to Iran at the international level. Having already been dissatisfied from the beginning by the limited achievements of the JCPOA Iran will face even more vexing predicaments in managing the existing tension. While the Iranian leadership worry the likely devastating effects of the new US sanctions on their country’s economy they at the same time condemn the new US-imposed solution map as a total surrender. Although concrete steps are yet to be taken by the parties of the growing tension, the Center for Iranian Studies in Ankara is pleased to invite you to us for a debate on the effects of the new context on Iran and Iran’s likely reactions. Pirouz Mojtahedzadeh, prominent Iranian international relations expert and Professor Emiritus of Tehran University, will cover in the debate the risks posed to Iran by the recent developments and Iran’s policy projections against these risks.
